Readymade curtains are a beneficial way of choosing the right window treatments for any room in your home. They are used by professionals as well as those who just want to decorate their own home in the style they choose. The wide selection that can be chosen from today include all types of colours, sizes, materials and styles. In addition, they are available for those who are on a budget, allowing the windows to be as luxurious looking as custom made curtains or drapes.

The windows you are covering can be virtually any size from café to bay windows. There are ready made curtains for French doors, oversize windows, round and inset windows. Each type will have a standard length and width that fits a number of windows. The length that is chosen will depend on the look that you are trying to achieve. There are curtains that are purposely longer to allow a "puddled" look, which is popular today. If you do not desire this look, measure your windows so that the right length can be purchased.

A standard height for hanging curtains is six inches above the top of the window. Starting at this point and measuring to a couple of inches under the window will give you the length needed. If you want the curtains to go all the way to the floor, measure the height from above the window to this point. They should be just above the floor to avoid stepping on them.

Readymade curtains are described using the style and the type. This would include tabbed, sheers, pleated, lined, insulated, tiered, café and ruffled. Some have pockets at the top and others do not. Many styles include country, contemporary, formal, shabby chic and traditional. The décor of your home should be considered before buying the curtains. Just as important as the style or the design is the colour. This can make or break a room. Using colours that do not fit in with your existing décor will create a room that is not harmonious.

Depending on the room for which the curtains are being purchased is one of the aspects to consider when it comes to the material. Some include material such as cotton blends and polyester that are easy to wash. They are normally used in children's rooms, playrooms, family rooms, bathrooms and kitchens. If you have a formal living room or dining room, materials that look great in these rooms are velvets, silks and linens. The great thing is today they are available in readymade curtains. In the past, they would have been custom made and they were expensive.

Shopping for readymade curtains is easy today as well. They are available from online retailers, department stores, discount retail venues and curtain stores. The curtains feature a variety of accessories that are available to match. Valances, balloons and jabots are made to match panels. Sheers for underneath can add the look you want. There are tie-backs made of various materials - cords, tassels and clips - allowing a custom look. The options today are so numerous that many look as if they were actually custom made curtains.
