How to Choose the Right Bedroom Curtains

Choosing curtains for any room is not always easy. There are a number of things to consider. When deciding on the right fabric, the formal or casual look, the practicality and how functional they will be are all part of the features you will want to think about before choosing the curtains that will ultimately end up in your bedroom.

One thing that should be considered and often is not, is if the bedroom will be used for relaxing. This is your private area that you can go to, kick back and relax. If you need to make the room dark so that you can enjoy a nap in the middle of the day, the curtains and other window treatments, such as blinds, should make this possible.

If you do not mind a lot of light, the window coverings can be a light and airy material that allows the maximum amount of light possible. There are so many styles that you will need to consider this as well. From layered to transparent, jabot to pleats, the possibilities are endless. The length and width of the curtains will also need to be a consideration. Do you have floor length windows or are they short windows? The length and width of the window coverings must be carefully thought out before purchasing the curtains.

Are you completely remodelling your bedroom? If so, choosing the curtains first will allow you to coordinate the rest of the room with your window treatments. This does not necessarily mean everything has to be the same colour. Complimenting colours that will enhance the look of the room should be incorporated into the bed linens and comforters. Any other furniture in the room, such as a chair or a settee should be taken into consideration as well.

The walls are another thing that you will want to think about when choosing a colour for curtains. If they are painted or wallpaper has been applied, choose a style and colour that helps to set off the wallpaper or the paint. Layered curtains using a complimentary colour are a great choice because they can allow as much or as little light desired.

Of course, privacy is an issue for the bedroom. This is especially true if you live in an area where the homes, apartments or town homes are close together. The curtains you choose will need to be ones that will allow you to maintain your privacy. Some people live in areas where this is not an issue, but still prefer to be able to close their curtains at night allowing them to feel more safe and secure.

If you are like most people, the curtains you use in your bedroom will be changed to fit the season. Winter is the time of year when lined curtains are used the most. They help to keep the heat in and the cold out of the room. They can be used in the summer to keep the room cool. The material that is used should be fade resistant, because the sun can fade the colour of the material. Resulting in uneven colours in the curtains, this totally deters from the look you are trying to achieve.
